Africa of the forgotten

women and children

It is not a question of a new socio-cultural category but of the identification of two layers not sufficiently taken into account in contemporary Africa and which could be brought closer to the category previously treated. CRS-NDI gives them special attention.

1. At the service of the dignity of women

Relaying the educational commitment of the founding members of the Sillon Noir in the Catholic centers for women's training, the CRS-NDI is engaged in a series of research-actions for the benefit of young girls in different parts of West Africa. The work on the rediscovered and lived values is oriented towards a work of conversion of the mentality for the blossoming, at the school of Mary, of the beauty of the feminine heart.

2. The awakening of childhood to culture and faith.

The cultural activity developed in various childhood educational centers by the CRS-NDI team essentially includes:

  • games, songs and dances as cultural manifestations in harmony with the faith, ;awakening to reflection on culture in both traditional and modern senses;

  • a first apprenticeship in the discernment of culture, especially that of images and their processing in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), and a first apprenticeship in the quest for harmony between modern culture, morality and faith.

The first point is the space where the children gladly enjoy themselves; this is why it is the subject of the greatest attention both by adults who create games, songs and dances, and by adults who provide leisure time for children and young people.

For the second point, the activity is provided by community intellectuals in dialogue with the children with the help of their teachers.

The third component is entrusted to a few adults who have the mastery of communication as well as the essential values of tradition and modernity to be saved in the heart of the ferment charged with the future, which is being seen today through the media. .

            The forms taken by this formation from childhood to inculturation, especially with regard to the last two points, are of two kinds:

1- through direct contact with educator-creators;

2- by listening to and viewing recorded cultural elements from which exchanges take place.

To render an adequate and qualified service to these different categories of cultural subjects, the CRS-NDI has given itself the vocation of being a vigilant and critical observatory of the new African rationalities and also serving as a place of articulation not only of the interculturality and interdisciplinarity, but also inter-rationality in order to develop relevant training tools adapted to the situation of the younger generations so that they do not reproduce the dangerous system of juxtaposition of logics, currently in going on in Africa and which is the real obstacle to the organic development of the continent.
